I plan to introduce my friend to the use of a tablet & WIU for train operations. While I can demonstrate the system on my 2 TIU layout, his layout is much, much larger and contains 4x as many TIUs. It is also wired somewhat differently in that the center rails are not cut to every 6 feet to support signal strength. Instead it appears the additional TIU channels were used to bolster signal strength. For example, I noticed 2 separate twisted pairs of wires feeding the same track roughly 4" apart. I also did not notice any center rail cuts along any stretch of track. This is a professionally build layout, so I am not certain what steps need to be performed in the event he wants a WIU installed.

Scott,
The layout should operate exactly the same regardless of whether he operates it with the DCS Remote or with the DCS App. The best practices of DCS apply to both modes of operation.
How well does DCS operate on his layout at present?
Everything that you need to know about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store! |

Thanks for the reply Barry. DCS seems to operate well for him although he said he had trouble with signal quality in the yard area until another TIU was added. While running, I did a signal check which showed solid 10s around the entire track.
He did mention PS3 locos in lashup could be slow to the start up request, but I attribute that to not having L version TIUs.
Based on what your saying, I should be able to connect the WIU as I would my own layout.
When he visits, I will be sure to show him my copy of the DCS 3rd edition 🙂
Scott,
I will be sure to show him my copy of the DCS 3rd edition
Do you also have available to show him a copy of The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition? If not, there's an easy fix!

Barry,
I broke out my copy and it is the DCS WIFI Companion 2nd edition. In fact, the answer to my question regarding the WIU and multiple TIUs is captured at the bottom of page 45 (I should have known better!). I have a large layout, but it is dwarfed by my friends and the number of TIUs on that layout threw me for a loop.
He claims that he is not into high tech and does not want to own a tablet, so it will be interesting to see how he likes running trains this way.
As always, thank you for your help.
Scott
