What is going on here?  Elephant car-jacking... Gator lunches on a lady... and in an effort to escape the madness Billy-Bob is canoeing in the grass.

Sam Champion tries cliff-diving and as luck would have it he swan dives smack dab onto the floating platform.  No worries, not a single hair on his head was disturbed.

On the serious side here are a few more pictures.  Don't worry about the gaps between the sections.  They are on intentional so that the sections do not stick together during the scenery applications.

Looks good!  A little humor along with serious modeling too!

Force Main, and the pipe that goes from one side to the other  under the tracks is called a carrier pipe.

Not sure about the plumbing to the left, but it appears that the discharge opens just before the tracks in the lower left corner.  Hoping I'm wrong, since I wouldn't want waste water draining onto the lower roadbed.

Regardless of what it is, very nicely done detail.

Your analytical and engineering mind is at work again.  I think you may be over thinking this just a bit.  Perhaps my original question was misleading.  I am asking what that object actually is, not what it modeled to represent.

Now would you care to venture a guess?

At first glance, not a clue.  It looks like some sort of flow valve on the left, but I think they modeled a platform just to the right of it. 

I hope somebody answers this question by the time I get up tomorrow, or it will consume brain power that should be put to better use.

I agree with Jerry. If you are talking about the pipes and that valve gear near the end of the large pipe, I have an idea. 
The piece at the end of the large pipe looks like the brake light switch that’s operated by the rear brake pedal on my Harley. With a few detail pieces glued on, of course. The large pipe might be plastic fuel line.

Last night Mrs. Lionelski thought I was going nuts because at around 11:00PM I was looking in all of the draws, cupboards, medicine cabinet, etc with no rhyme or reason. Even went down to the workshop and went through all of my stashes.

After reading this thread with the pics and clues a little earlier I figured that if I looked hard enough I'd find what you used, but , even after the above noted search, nuttin'. Very frustrating for this scrounger who has made many new layout items from unexpected sources. 

Is the larger part cut from a piano hinge?

Anyone else have a challenge like this for us?

As you know, the guys building my layout are multi talented and also have a good sense of humor.  Last Tuesday I stopped in to confirm the locations for my block signals.  While strolling around the layout I spotted an elephant at water spout for the steam locomotives.  As I got ready to take this picture I hear Joe behind saying "mommy, is that you?" 

It took me a a little while to stop laughing and finally take the picture.  Enjoy
