My Yoder box car arrived last week and I thought some may want to see photos of this interesting model.  Either the ventilated or solid door can be slid over the single door wide opening.  On the ACL these cars saw seasonal duty into the 1960's and the SAL merger. The paint and lettering job is impeccable - but at some point I must weather it.  Rich informs me he has several left to sell.

PS - Rich is now taking reservations for distinctive Mather outside braced single sheathed box and stock cars.

All 3 cars are scale cars. The ACL car is a 36' car and of shorter inside height than the other boxcars that surround it.  Probably due to the fact that watermelons are heavy.

As always, nice picture Ed and beautiful cars.    There are very few unsold so buy now or cry later!!!

Close but no cigar Martin!!!   He said prices were not listed on the web site and they are not.  I pre-ordered mine so I don't know what the current price is.  Figure $350 range.

Yes, and there's a Tab to the left - "Contact Us".  To get accurate information one generally goes to the primary source.  Perhaps I should have painted an arrow on a screenshot to be clearer.

Thanks for confirming that one can lead a horse to water but not make him drink remains a true axiom.

Yoder's painted cars are pricy compared with mass produced plastic ones - but when you consider the hours that goes into creating one the price is reasonable.   With the kids out of the nest I am fortunate to be able to consider purchase of special cars like the Yoder ventilated box car once in awhile. They add diversity to a roster comprised of a large number of nicely detailed mass produced models (like the IM 37 AAR box car to the right of it in the first photo) that weren't even available when I converted to O scale 45 years ago.  My next brass purchase will likely be a Yoder Mather car.

Anyway, Rich is at OSW...  AND I usually try to provide at least some help as opposed to childish comments about doing a Google search that seem to stem out of just about any request for information folks make on a discussion forum.

I love my 3 Yoder ACL cars, I wished I had the coinage for 2 more.   I always get my deposits in early with Rich's stuff since they are sweet cars.   He really picks winners.

I've been interested in ACL ventilated box cars since seeing dozens of them on sidings near Sanford FL back in the mid 50's.  For those looking for a lower cost alternative to the Yoder car you might try hunting for a wood  1950's/60's kit by Zimmer (later by All Nation).  Below is a photo of a built up car I purchased from a friend several years ago, and sold on eBay to make way for the Yoder car.  While the detail is not up to brass model standards, the wood sides don't look too bad.  The pictures reminds me that weathering the Yoder car must be a priority.

In the run up to hosting the 2004 O Scale National Convention contact was made with several companies regarding a ventilated box car convention car - no takers.  We did get Red Caboose to do FGEX wood reefers and AtlasO WM covered hoppers and RF&P USRA box cars.

Martin

Nice work Martin - I particularly like the job you did on the yellow one - looks sharp.  I bought the built up AN car from Brian, who I believe picked it up in an estate around 15 years ago along with a good number of virgin AN kits.

It's been said many times on these  forums - what goes around comes around in O scale 2 rail.  Our minority scale generally isn't well suited for someone looking for instant gratification.  However if you are patient eventually if it's been previously made it will show up on eBay, or on tables at O scale 2 rail shows like the O Scale National, O Scale West, Chicago Midwest, Strasburg, and Cherry Valley.  I rarely go home empty handed and always with a smile on my face....

Those are sweet Martin.  Wood DOES "finish" up nicely.

That era of railroading has some of the neatest wood equipment and structures.

And that makes it a challenge to finish those brass cars to look like wood.

I agree that weathering makes things look more realistic. There must be some cars that were built near the time of your RR operations (paint still fresh?). I hope this is one because it looks too good as it sits! Can't you just grease up the trucks?

Wes,

Here's a somewhat earlier FEC car in 1917 that looks to have a lumber load being had loaded/unloaded in DC.  Might note that the ventilated door on this specific car is louvered not unlike a larger set of shutters.

Also looking for photos of FEC 15001-15100 Stock Cars (In service 1917-1934).

Just re-visited this to find the photo you posted - very interesting and unique looking door arrangement!

I'd send you a copy of the photo I posted, but I don't see an e-mail address in your profile and the photo I have is also just under 10 meg bmp file.
