I've been to 5 consecutive York Meets now, and came home this time with "not buying remorse."  As I model in 0 scale 2-rail, there's not a hellava lot for me at these gatherings.  I still have a deep love for postwar Lionel steam, however, and attend for that reason plus the wonderful social aspect.  Always enjoyable for me, so it's very much worth it.  I saw more than a few goodies that - when I got home - was sorry I didn't purchase.  Some fine built-up false fronts I left sitting there (CHEAP) that would've/could've fit nicely onto my home pike.

I also saw a brand new, in-the box Lionel Hiawatha full train (1988 model) in C-8 condition (test run).  All the cars, etc. listed for $495.  As I was staring at same, the dealer said "I'll let it go for $450.  Now, like I said, I'm a 2-rail, scale guy, with a love for post war steam - but this deal was stunning!  I did NOT buy it.

All the way home (3 hours) I lamented my decision.  (still am going through the doubting pain).

Is there anyone else in my shoes?  Suffering from the OPPOSITE of buyers' remorse?  If so, what did you not buy, that now you wish you had?

It is rare when I have buyer's remorse and come home wishing I had bought something...oops, there was one item in an open show, but I balked at the price.

I went with intent to find two items, and came home with both, although I wanted

more of the second, rail car trucks.  This was an improvement over Yorks where I

do not find much.  I found what I set out to find, and I found some information that

will help me find another item.  The major buy and many of the trucks were found

Sat. morning when the herds had thinned.  I usually come away disappointed in not

seeing wild and exciting new offerings from the manufacturers, and that held true.

I haven't been to York but I have regretted buying some things at other train shows.  I was thinking I could find it next time.

We'll next time has been several years and about a dozen train shows since.  I am still looking.  I have resolved never to pass up something I really want at a train show again as long as I can afford it.  I have resolved not to want something I can't afford.

Yeah, it's happened to me more times than I'd like to remember.  Once at York, I saw a B&O heavy weight set that a member had built from kits.  It was the best kit built train I ever saw...FLAWLESS.  I passed on it.  Then at one of the O scale Conventions(2 rail) I saw an ABBA B&O set of F-3s (I think) can't remember kit MFG for $1,200.00 superbly detailed and painted.  Passed on that also.  I think it was at the same O scale convention I saw a brass Amtrak Superliner set that I passed on.  Plus a few more in my time.  Oh well!!! SIGH

My first York was back in a bout 2000. I went as a guest with very little spending money and not knowing what to expect. In the Silver hall, someone was selling a four way hand held signal light for $75. I was reluctant to pull the trigger, so I passed. The next time I went, the lowest price I saw was over double the $75! Would have looked real nice with my collection of lanterns and other RR collectibles I have.
