(I hope this isn't a duplicate post ... I looked around and did not see anyone post anything about this.)  You watch this video and, really, there are almost no words to convey how bizarre and incredible this occurrence was.  How you wonder, HOW could this guy not have been aware that he was inches from being crushed like an overripe tomato?  Yes, according to reports, he was elderly, perhaps his senses somewhat dulled by Father Time.  But to be totally unaware?  He shows absolutely NO reaction to the train passing by.  To not even glance back once you cross the tracks?  Does he have NO peripheral vision?  I can see not being able to hear a train that's a 1/4 mile down the tracks.  But a train that's seemingly a 1/4 inch from your head??  How could you not hear that, feel the vibration?   Is he some sort of real-life Pinball Wizard?  Deaf, dumb and blind?  All in all, this guy must be the luckiest man in South America!!!  See what you think.

Big Jim,

That is a GE AC4400CW like locomotive in the colors of a local private railroad operator, MRS Logistica. Both GE & EMD have facilities in Brazil building locomotives for the local market. Here is a link to a news article about the GE locomotive facility in Contagem in the eastern state of Minas Gerais. To the extent I remember the predominant track gauge in Brazil is the meter gauge (1m or 3’3" ), followed by broad gauge (5’3" ) with limited standard gauge tracks for cross-border lines connecting Argentina, etc.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

Naveen Rajan
