I have 5 favorites, but will start with the post war #282 magnet crane because of its play value.
How about you?

My Lionel #362 Barrel Loader. I had hours of fun with it when I was a kid, and many years later, when I bought an operating barrel car to go with it, I had still more fun.
The 463 Lionel nuclear reactor and the 175 rocket launcher...
Although it’s not currently on my layout I think the 165 magnetic crane may be my favorite. When I was a kid an uncle of mine had one of the originals and I was fascinated with picking up those scrap metal pieces and moving them around.
And the 362 barrel loader is just a classic. Seems so simple but I never get tired of watching those barrels scoot up the ramp and -- dink, dink, dink -- down into the waiting gondola.
Lionel operating news stand.
Wow, I like them all. Some more than others. The 456 Coal Ramp is a fun accessory to operate. Like Arnold, I like the 282 Gantry Crane. It's hard to say what my favorite is. I think a better method, for me, would be to list them in order of likability.
Even then I can't say that I have an absolute favorite. What I do like is alot of them all on the layout, giving it a whole lot of "play value"
96 Coal Loader - just like the 97 but with a hand-crank to move those buckets!
Grampstrains posted:I have the original Culvert Loader and Un-loader. The two working together are a lot of fun and touching them isn't required.
That one I do not have. I bet it is very cool to see it in action, and it is a crowd pleaser.

I agree and also got it as a young child. Very safe for a child to play with.

Adorable. A must have.

Picking one favorite accessory, like picking one favorite engine or one favorite beautiful woman, is very difficult, but fun to talk about.
Another obvious favorite of mine, as mentioned in my previous post, is the #38 water tower with the water pump in it that used real water. I think it is the most unique and may go up in value because the post war one was only made 1 or 2 years in the late 1940s. I find it to be a big crowd pleaser.

Nothin is more entertaining for kids than the countdown and blast off of the rocket launcher.
Can anyone get the rocket launcher train car and the parachute and capsule to work so the capsule slowly descends and lands safely on the ground. Anyone who says Yes is a liar. LOL

Picking one favorite beautiful woman is simple, if you like living.....LOL
Here's my favorite--she's all original, and I have the original box, too. This was passed down to me from my Dad, and I remember vividly when he found it at York in the 1970s, "had to have it," and bought it from Al Levin, the national TCA president at the time. At the time, he had 2 or 3 of many items in his collection, which he sold to generate the cash to pay for this. I remember how thrilled he was to finally have an original 840 power station, so I guess you could say the story behind it is as much a favorite as the accessory itself.

Breath-taking!
It must look great while running Standard Gauge Blue Comet engine and passenger cars.
The 97 now and forever! :-)

You're a wise man Dan. And with that attitude, your train collection will continue to grow and you will have a home for it and yourself. I know what I'm talking about, being a divorce lawyer and mediator.
For those of you that don't have it, this is a video of the #38 water tower in action. Notice how the dyed water level goes down and spout lowers when power is applied, and how the water level slowly rises and spout rises when power is turned off:It is unique.
Another great accessory is the post war Lionel operating fork lift.
Another great one is the AF oil drum loader!

That would be torts, which would include negligence actions involving train wrecks!

I was hoping someone would bring up American Flyer accessories. I intentionally did not limit this post to OGauge or Lionel accessories. Some of the American Flyer accessories are awesome. Would love to see them if anyone has them, especially if shown in action in a video. I bet they can be blended in nicely into an O Gauge layout.
Here is the operating fork lift in action:
Mouse over, click on the triangle.
Ditto on the oil drum loader. I have one of the old ones.
If you want total reliability, got to go with this one that never fails:The automatic gateman has the absolute correct name, they weren't kidding when they named him automatic, and he has been that for about 70 years.
I should have used the correct terminology: oil DRUM loader!
Tinplate Art posted:I should have used the correct terminology: oil DRUM loader!
The Oil Drum loader, Seaboard Clamshell coal loader, Gabe the Lamplighters, the cow that jumps on and off the track, are very entertaining AF accessories.
Does anyone know if it is possible to adapt the cow on the track (which I have) to O Gauge track? That would be a good project for one of you mechanical geniuses.

Mike, not only the turntable, but the scenery in the distance is magnificent.
My/our favorite accessory is the ice chest, located just off the layout room. Why? I keeps the beer nice and cold!

If only that ice chest and You were in O Scale, now that would be a great accessory. We could call it "the automatic beer drinker," over time it would be as successful as the automatic gateman.
Maybe we can turn it into "the automatic beer drinking gateman," and we will put real beer and an operating pump in it, so it runs like the 38 water tower.
This could be a Big Moneymaker for Lionel. I want a cut for this brilliant idea!
Another good combination is the post war icing station and operating milk cars and platform. Building a milk plant (Borden with Elsie the cow) next to it and having a nearby dairy farm could be very nice.
The 264 forklift lumber unloader....always works like a charm! A great crowd pleaser!
This video is not mine, but it shows it in action......
