My fondest memories are of the 6-2301 MPC reissue of the 464 sawmill. It was my main Christmas gift one year in my early teens. I loved how it “appeared” to actually saw the logs into lumber. One of my first add-on cars to my original set was and MPC era UP log dump car which perfectly complimented the sawmill. It always had a place of honor on my layout as a kid. I still have it including the original box and packaging. The sawmill and the 6-2317 drawbridge were the only big accessories I got as gifts as a kid.
Growing up, I longed for the culvert loader and unloader my uncle had on his Christmas layout each year when the family gathered at their house Christmas day. In the late 80’s I picked up a loader at York and only a few years ago I picked up a postwar unloader off the ‘bay. Have not run them together yet but I have been picking up extra culvert cars for when I do. I think these edge out the sawmill now as my favorite as no direct intervention is needed for continuous operation.
