I have heard several stories of damaged Atlas turnouts when folks try to remove them from the styrofoam.  I have gone through a lot of these and thought to share this.

A little something I do is to hold the styrofoam tray up right and slightly flex the point end of the tray  down to lightly release pressure of the packaging from the  rail ends and lift the point end of the switch straight up.

I do not try to lift the diverging track end up first!

Of course the caveman approach is to break the foam apart.

Thats' the way to do it Tom.

I learned the lesson when having to return in their original packaging, some first generation 3 rail #5 double slip switches for modification.  To get the switch back in the Styrofoam it was necessary to flex the Styrofoam to let the switch slip back in.

Flexing the Styrofoam removes the need to fight the switch to get it out.
