I'm not keen on this offering.   That being said, has anyone else noticed the same three people seem to seek out Menard's postings just to complain?

And no, I am not a Menard's cultist.  Personally I hate the couplers on their cars, and have stopped buying them after a few.  However, as I have said in other posts, they do fill a niche seemingly forgotten by the big players.

I have been a scale modeller all my life except when I had Hornby clockwork trains as a kid at least it was 2-rail! Ha, Ha, only joking, and don't blast me for this posting just offering my opinion....

Lets face it Menards items are fun they are really toys (yes I know we all have toys) but these Menards toys are toy, toys why try to change them I think collecting them as they come would be a great hobby and interest, so the military vehicle has chrome that's part of the fun I would not try to change anything that Menards bring out I would leave them as they are.

I go to England every year to see my son and his family while at a toy train show over there I saw some old clockwork trains (not Hornby) that had been converted to Electric three rail running this fellow makes and sells the mechanisms to do it. I couldn't help thinking do we have to change everything! Leave them as they are and have fun. (Even though I don't buy Menards products I still enjoy looking at their new items and their threads.) Roo.

Way too modern for me.  What's with all the chrome on Army vehicles?

There would never be a military vehicle with chrome on it except for General Patton ride.

Careful guys, you're upsetting the "You must love everything Menards makes with no questions" cultists that congregate here!

No need to insult the people who like what Menards may make. If you don't like it please do us all a favor and read some other thread. Your constant complaining and your insults are not welcome and neither are you guys if you keep insulting us.

Dave no one is complaining about Menards.  It's called constructive criticism.  Personally I have 4 Menards structures and 12 pieces of military rolling stock because I liked what was offered.  I'm sorry if you feel offended by constructive criticism but the sward cuts both ways.

Is the new offering my cup of tea? No. In general am I very happy with Menards and their amazing offerings, buildings, rolling stock etc. absolutely! Since I discovered Menards I have a lot more train stuff than I would have at a lot less cost! Does my admiration for Menards because of the way they do business make me a cultist? I don't think so! It makes me a person who chooses to enjoy the hobby his way! To buy the things that strike my fancy from the company or companies who deal with me fairly! A person who enjoys the good-natured comraderie I always find on the Menards threads! I think the worst thing in this hobby is to start taking ourselves too seriously! Just sayin!

Constructive criticism is fine but to call people cultists is the kind of thing that should be avoided and I don't like.

As far as the offering this week I agree there should no chrome but that can be fixed if the buyer don't like it.

Please reread what I posted initially.

OK....

When it comes to Menard's stuff, no one buying gives one iota of caring if it's prototypically realistic.

I have accurate models of military gear, mostly from WWII and Vietnam(where my uncle served).

Now, if Lionel or MTH came out with a $100 car that is supposedly accurate, yes, I will say something if I see inaccuracies.

As I said previously, there are things i like about Menard's and things I don't.   I am certainly not going to complain that a $20---designed to be a toy train--- car is not up to Legacy or Premier realism standards.

Well I still stick to my opinion. If I lived in America and was close to a Menards store I would have started collecting the Rolling Stock right from the start chrome and all, and put them into display cases on the wall, because at the price you can buy them for, you could afford to do that. I bet if you kept them in mint condition they will be collectors items one day, (have a look at the price of old trains of any description) who needs brass, collect Menards items! Roo.

Chrome aside....   anyone else think Menards has really tapped out on the military stuff on flatcars?   This sub-sub category of O gauge aficionados couldn't have been that large to begin with.

I love Menards stuff, but I agree with you that  they should really slow down on their military cars. The big reason I say this is due to the fact that I can only run a fifteen car train on my layout at most.

All joking aside "wiled Mary" was right with what he said,  the only reason for chrome on a military vehicle is to give the enemy something bright and pretty to shoot at!

That said if you wont realism there are some beautiful cars out there on the market for around three hundred a fifty dollars apiece. As for me, the O-Gauge cheep skate,  I'll camouflage the chrome.

OK guys....the admins have gotten alerts/emails about some of the posts in this thread so the worst ones were deleted.....there may be more if they have to go through a second round.  Enough already about cults, military service, etc.....this thread is not about those topics!  Nothing wrong with making constructive comments about the pros and cons of this new Menards product but please keep it in those confines...

While I now have a more than sufficient array of Menards military offering in the US Army variant, I am still very interested in obtaining US Navy items to use for a naval port scene.  I would guess others could be seeking US Air Force items.  I think there are still ample opportunities for Menards to expand offerings for the military rail model genre.

There several of the existing Army flats that could be readily tweaked to fill that role,  the electrical generator and tarp covered load comes quickly come to mind.  There could also be interest in number of construction equipment items being presented as part of a Navy Seabee battalion being transported to port for deployment.

What do others think, and are there other offering you would like to see?

I am a real big fan of the new 11 1/2 Flat with upgraded trucks and composite wood decking.  I had been modifying the earlier 10 1/2 models regardless of road name.

I would like to see a two or four pack available of just the flat without any load included.  Similar to what Menards offers with the 14 3/4 with fully sprung trucks.
