Question of difference

The one with the stock number beginning with 20 is scale size.

The one with the stock number beginning with 30 is traditional O gauge size.  Compare length, for one thing.

There is also a difference in the amount of add-on details.

MTH numbers that start with "30-" are Rail King and are semi scale.  MTH numbers that start with "20-" are Premier and are truer to scale.  The Premier line cost more money.  More "bells and whistles" if you pardon the pun.

That is the difference.

Both products are "HiRail," meaning they will run on three rail track from various manufacturers.

MTH specifies HiRail on some Premier models because some are available with scale wheels and can be converted to 2-rail scale operation.

They are NOT the same size.  The description on the Rail King unit is wrong on the TrainWorld web site.  This is from the MTH web site for the Rail King Unit. Unit Measures: 14 1/2” x 2 1/2” x 3 7/8”

Ron, My apologies. I am reading the sizes off of the website of a train store. I do see the difference of size on the MTH Website. Thanks

No apologies needed.  Rail King is typically a little shorter and lighter on the details.  That is why they are less expensive.
