US NAVY 1987-93, CVN70 and I have a few trains...

My dad was also in the Navy in VA65 from 62-70 ish  serving on both CVN65 and CV64 and had Marx trains when he was a kid which I still have.

My Grandpa was in the Navy from 43-46 on the AO-58 oiler and saw first hand a lot of the island hopping battles of late WWII in the Pacific.  Great guy and he was a real Railroad man working first in Levenworth Ks and then was forman of the car shop in Coffeyville Ks in the late 60's and early 70's.

Yes sir, 2 MMR CMO with two years of drydock i only got one westpac in 90 and Pacex 89 and we were only on station leading up to the deadline for the first Gulf war. Dang it was hot in the IO  lol.

I did 2 westpacs, the last one had us relieving the 2 carriers that were in the Gulf for the war, right around April of 1991.  Got back from the last westpac about 6 weeks before discharge.  We also did about a year in drydock, between the westpacs.

We stopped in Dubai 3 times, while in the Gulf.

Raised in the Bronx, NY, with my Dads’ Lionel 0-6-0 227 Switcher and 2-4-2 259E engines, I left home to join the Navy.  Wound up serving from 1955 to 1975.

USS Shangri La (CVA-38),  USS  Hornet  (CVA-12),  USS Harold J Ellison (DD 864), USS Leary (DD 879),  an advisory tour in Vietnam in 1968.

Somewhere along my Naval career, I picked up my Dads’  227 and 259E  and have been adding trains to them ever since.

Art, have you been back since your D01 was turned into Minuteman National Historic Site?  I haven’t made it up to it yet, but hope to go at some point.

-No Ross I took my kids to Ellsworth some years back but that was before it was a national park.  Hope to get back soon and thought I might go last summer but then Virus hit.  I can tell you that the art on the blast door was not there.  In fact that was a copy of what was done at Minot.  I am modeling a missile receiving station o.n my layout.  I like your base
