Army 1967-69. Started when I was 6 in HO that slid under the bed. While in the service and while finishing college I didn't do any building. Started again in the mid 70s. I switched to O Scale 2 rail in the 90s and never looked back.

I am not a Vet but I got my love of trains from my late dad a USN(R) WWII Vet (LCI-229) . Bought me my first Lionel set and a few additional pieces during my early childhood. He set them up every Christmas and packed them away on New Year's Day. That is why I still have them over 60 years later. My younger brother is also a Navy Vet and still loves his Lionel trains.
God bless all Vets and I feel the proudest to put out my American flag every November 11!

I beat a hasty retreat in '66, back to the lazy civilian life.
USAF 1972-1978 went back in 1989 as a reservist and became an Air reserve technician. 1 tour in Saudi 1990 2 tours in Afghanistan 2001-2002 and 2005, 2 tours in Iraq 2003 and 2007 They retired me in 2015 said I was too old at 60 to be in uniform so I work for them now as a civilian but its getting hard to crawl around aircraft so I may be retiring for good soon. Grew up with real trains running in my backyard and have been playing with trains for as long as i can remember and I still run my original lionel set my father bought for my older brother back in 1951 He never played with it but I always loved it
Years ago Lionel held a military-related contest; winner would get a free car. I didn't win, but they liked my story so I got a personalized car and think it was free shipping. Picture is me reenlisting at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin in Jan 1988.
