Just because I have nothing better to do, I started making a list of the Vision Line Engines that have been released.

This turned out to be a bit more difficult than I expected. I did search here but could not find what I was looking for.

Let me know what I missed and feel free to correct any mistakes I have made.

I figure someone else would like this information as well.

@peter allen 072518, if you want, amend your post with these if you like.

I believe that this is the complete list, I don't think I missed anything. If I recall correctly, I believe some of the GS Series engines may have not been produced due to a large offering of engines.

My reply post

Just up there. I do need to clean things up a bit. All the product numbers are correct, but the years are hard to see as they are at the end. I'll make it much neater and way easier to read when I get in at it tonight. I have to figure out if those little Gensets are and where they are hiding in what catalog. Until then, happy reading.

I thought the 2-10-10-2 was the very first vision line engine? I feel like this is a false memory now.

Peter, my memory is that the first two Vision Line engines were the PRR 0-8-8-0 and the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 steam engines.  I have been searching online for confirmation but haven’t found any yet.  IIRC and I probably don’t, the diesel was announced separately after the two steam engines.

Well, the easiest way to confirm dates is to pop in the product number on the Lionel website. When I was looking into some of the items I wasn't too sure about, I'd search the name, then pop to their website and plug in the product number. The older stuff shows what catalogs they are from which are dates by year.

The product information on the Lionel website lists the “most recent catalog” the item was included in, not the first catalog or the original announcement date.  Many items were/are included in multiple catalogs.

****ETA****  It appears that the “most recent catalog” information is no longer included for items that don’t have 6-xxxxx item numbers.

I was typing the above edit when the following post was made.

Yes, but if you put in the item number in the search bar for most of the older stuff, those starting with 6-##### it should give the catalog that it was first in.

So here is what the difference is like what Greg and I were saying. Older items will have the catalog listed, newer it won't. Let's use the GE Evolution Hybrid and the 49er(Clown Train) Challenger.

As you see, older items it says the catalog but the newer items it doesn't even list it.

Another thing too, if you search the web for the older catalogs, say "Lionel 2009 Volume II Catalog PDF", you should be able to get it to pop up. There may be an issue viewing it depending on which search result you try and view. I had that happen with the first search on the Signature 2010 that has all the big runs of Vision Line items. The second search result I was able to view though which is how I was able to finish off that list. As far as other older catalogs, not sure.

They are both in the 2009 v1 catalog.

It could also be because "Built to Order" maybe hadn't started? They probably over produced and had a good sized left over inventory. If you look around that time period, there are quite a few engines that jump a bit on catalogs for a few years. Now the only thing that jumps from catalog to catalog is any sort of rolling stock. I wouldn't have thought passenger cars would be one, but it has happened though rare. Almost always freight.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I'll see tonight if I can get the other link for the PDF that works. I did that with the 2010 Signature. First time it wouldn't load, second link worked. I'll fix the link above once I get it figured out at home. Wait 6 hours or so.

I can generate an excel list to compare with what is up already. Just need a day or two.

Here is one for 2023: 2301050 LCCA Union Pacific Vision Line Big Boy #4023. It's been on the LionelSupport website for weeks now.  Pretty much gave away the surprise  that was announced last week.

For 2022 Mr Muffins is offering a PRR #1200 Vision Line Class A, Lionel item 2231690

Updated with these, and the link to the catalog.

I’ve often wondered what the primary business is of the company that developed Lionel’s search engine. I’m guessing lug nuts.

Probably the same folks that messed up the lionelsupport.com website.  I work with IT/databases and in my opinion the lionelsupport.com website is just a total disaster. The old one was light years better. If I ever rolled out a website like lionelsupport.com I'd be kicked out the front door within a few minutes.
