Yeah. Never happened as I had predicted, though the MTH 3/2 equipment was a step in the right direction. From a technical standpoint, it wasn't really that difficult to implement but no one wanted to run with it (I even have the graphic of how to do it).

The MTH 3/2-rail is poorly executed and very trouble-prone!  I've had tons of repairs simply fixing the lousy switches they used and the poor quality wheel wipers.  Also, when you want to run on 3-rail, which a vast majority of those models do, many of the wheels don't have frame connectivity, so they run poorly there as well.

No argument there. A simple wheel wiper system rather than an axle wiper would be simpler to implement and service. I've also had to deal with a couple of "truck shorts" where the extra wires touch something they shouldn't. So far, my engines seem to work pretty well, though they didn't get constant track time they might have gotten on a home layout. That may change down the road.

I have to disagree on this one.  I have an MTH TrainMaster, Alco S-2 and GP7 that were 2/3 rail with PS3.  They all work flawlessly with 2 rail wheels and DCC once you throw the 2/3 switch and remove the 3 rail pick-ups.  Excellent implementation and good DCC operation.

Disagree all you want, but I've seen a whole lot more than three engines to make my judgment of the quality of this implementation!

I'll second that.  I have about five and they all work perfectly.

My MTH 3/2 Hudson got a new frame, cylinders, gearbox, and drivers.  Also got its belly stitched up.  I agree; not very well planned out - the drivers were insulated at the axle (yikes!) which means that rods and valve gear needed to be insulated.

Cylinders were seriously undersized. Tailbeam was missing.  The rest was superb - a good model, with good sounds.  Now if I could only get a factory reset . . .
