Evening everyone!
So I have a Lionel 2020 ATSF 3751 that has a unique problem. Both smoke units are overheating even though I have the units set to LOW. I've had to replace the smoke pipe for the whistle steam due to the heat melting the original. I've spoken to Mike Reagan and he suggested replacing the RCMC board as it sounded like the MOSFET chip that controls the levels went bad and only acts as an ON/OFF switch for the smoke. Well I did so but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem. I should mention the first replacement RCMC that I got from Lionel was a bad one to begin with as it would run on CONVENTIONAL but not LEGACY, i.e it wasnt picking up the LEGACY signal. The second replacement RCMC works but still replicates the problem. $200 down the hole (F***). I experimented with replacing the original 8 ohm resistors (pretty sure they're 8 ohm as I checked them with my Ohm meter) with 18 ohm resistors but that doesn't seemed to have helped. Would it be a bad idea to try a 27 ohm resistor? Let me know what you think. I don't run smoke that often, but would like to have the option to and not have to worry about it. Thanks guys!
