I see in the Lionel 2021 catalog that the Baby K4's have fan driven smoke units.  I have 3 TMCC K4's from the early 2000's (not great smokers).  Does anyone think it is possible to upgrade these older engines with a fan driven unit that is in the new K4.  I assume that the parts could be ordered from Lionel if so.

You'd have to do more than upgrade the smoke unit as the new models doubtless have electronics to handle the chuffing smoke that your model doesn't have.   You may have heard discussions here about my Super-Chuffer II and the Chuff-Generator, those are products that add in the missing controls for fan driven smoke.  I've actually upgraded a few of the semi-scale Lionel models to upgraded smoke, that's how I do it and I pick a fan driven smoke unit that I can fit into the boiler.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I have spent the last year building my first TMCC layout ostensibly for my grandchildren.  I have learned a great deal about wiring and tweaking Fastrack and modern power for TMCC operations.  My last layout was 20 years ago and was all conventional (and it was what my oldest grandchildren (who are now 19 and 17!) remember.  Anyway, I am about finished with all of the track and accessories.  I will soon turn to scenery and upgrading the engines I bought for my grandchildren in the early 2000's.  I know the K4's are poor smokers from our Christmas tree layouts.  I definitely am interested in the Super Chuffer.  Should I combine it with the new fan driven unit or could you suggest units that will fit in the TMCC K4's that will work with your Super Chuffer and/or Chuff Generator.  Also, is there someone who will do the complete upgrades for me?
