Happy New Year to all the ORG members. I though I'd take a look back at the projects that I've completed (or soon to) on my layout and trains over the past year.

Tell us about your wins and losses in 2024.

My layout is basically done so I've shifted my focus to upgrading engines and rolling stock.

The RSJ&B shops have been busy. Here are several projects that were completed in 2024

LIRR A1 Morris Park Shops Switcher- by far the highlight of the year. The shell was 3D printed by TrainguyKen from some photos I had sent him. The power chassis is from a Lionchief Dino switcher and the rest were details I added.

Weaver New York, New Haven, and Hartford RS3- I bought this engine from Trainz, mostly because I like the older NY/NH&H logo. The engine had a balky reversing board so I decided to put a Lionchief/ bluetooth board in the engine and upgrade the lighting.

RMT Penn Central BEEP- my most recently completed project. I put a Flyerchief board in this one and upgraded the lighting. Still some fine tuning to do but the engine runs great.

MTH New York Central S2- I bought a pair of S2's at one of the last Cabin Fever MTH auctions. This one was going to get an ERR install but the boards wouldn't fit under the narrow shell. So I found another Flyerchief board that went in this one. I also had to source new trucks since this was a dummy engine and the original trucks had no motors or gears. I'll call it done even though it's still not been road tested.

Lionel PRR Doodlebug /MPC PRR RPO Passenger Car- I bought a Lionchief+2.0 Doodlebug in 2024. Several members had commented on the lack of passengers in the Doodlebug so I added some. The coach had been sitting on my bench waiting for new couplers after I fixed the original lighting a while back. I thought it would look perfect behind the motorcar so I added an interior, passengers and LED lighting. Makes a nice consist on my layout.

I have several more projects in the que. So the RSJ&B shops are going to have a busy 2025 as well.

Bob

Bob, you may guess I like the RS3 best.  They are all good projects.

Kim gave me the MTH Doodlebug for Christmas that I bought back in May.  Populating it with passengers and crew will be similar to the Lionel offering you did.

Wins and Losses???  For wins, I would select the Sanky Wanky Coffee Company and my scratch built Westminster Church.

As for losses, the 5-volt board gave up on me a couple months ago on an MTH Western Maryland H9 Consolidation.  That was the first time one of those failed for me.  Feature after feature stopped working.  I ended up seeing someone wanted one for a project engine and sold it to him for a fair price in my opinion.  Sad to see the engine go, but I did get out of it a little more than it would have cost for the upgrade.  I don't really want to bother with upgrades now, since they take away from layout time.

A couple big wins there Mark. Both buildings are great. And a new Doodlebug too? Nice! Sorry about the H9 but at least it found a new home.

@Putnam Division- Peter, you've had a lot of wins this year- actually the last few years since you started renovations on the 3rd floor. Love your layout. I only hope to have room one day for something similar.

Thank you, Bob!  Yes, a young fellow actually asked me if I had an H9 I wanted to part with.  He wanted the chassis and boiler.  I asked him to send me a photograph when he is done.  How did he know I was having trouble with one?  I never posted anything anywhere!  “Twilight Zone music playing”

Peter, Bob is right!  Recalling that unfinished attic, you have come a long way!

@RSJB18Bob, your talent really shines in your work. I’m liking the idea of a passenger car with my same Doodlebug. What is the make of yours?

Gene

Thanks Gene- Lot's of better options out there but I had this Lionel MPC RPO coach sitting around. I bought a K-line interior and bashed it into submission. The people are BEEPeople. Not at @John Rowlen 's level of detail and craftsmanship but I'm happy with the results.

It seems like my layout is progressing at a snail’s pace, but in a year some progress has been made.  Went from bench work to the full lower level operational in 2024.  Yea!  It is very gratifying to run from Marceline all the way to St Joseph and the St Joe industrial park.  Now I shift primarily to ballast and scenery until I add the upper level.
