My goal of building a new 3-rail layout kind of went crazy. I found I was tiring of all the block and turnout wiring. So what would I do? Thinking the grandkids (and myself!) might want a little varitey. So maybe I could work in a 1:43 scale slot car track. Then I found these neat lighted buildings made by Dept 56 and Lemax and collected a few, new, flea markets, antique shops,Ebay and being  not "to far" from O-scale, well some at least. The buildings added a world of light and great detail. Always loving the carnival rides, after much savings, I slowly picked up a collection of Mr. Christmas World's Fair rides, all under scale and a few Lemax carnival booths that added many of lights, motions, and sound. The sound volume can be varied or turned off, and will play era music or Christmas songs at your selection.

As far as the TRAINS go, my original 13x16 plan had three loops 072+,outside,054+middle and 042+ inside all connected by turnouts. My plans were to be able to run 3 trains at once, one per loop. The outer loops for my scale N&W steamers. After completion of the loops, turnouts yet installed, I was getting tired of watching loop after loop, so my plans went a makeover. There is now one continous 3 loop run stoping at 3 stations. At the yard, I can back one train in, then back out another to make a return run. I have much detailing left to make all blend in. Well, maybe not a true 3-rail layout anymore, but it is fun. Someday when I can afford ($400) Ross dbl. crossover, I will be able to run my scale engines on a 2 lap outer loop run. My few turnouts are now withing easy reach and all all manual.

Thanks for the look.

Bill

I like your layout a lot.  You have added a lot of fun items and things to look at and hold interest.  The slot car track is a good idea.  I've used Superstreets myself but experimented with slot cars.  The only thing I did not like is that they are designed to move so fast - I like slow moving traffic.

Nice water, and boats.  They add a lot of a layout.

Kids no doubt love this all . . .

True, the slot cars are hard to slow down. I did away with the hand controllers and installed rotory switches with a restrictor to cut the current down. Now I can maintail a set speed and control that speed, but not cars are all they same. Some run slowly just fine, others will not even move. But it is fun to have the flashing light police car chasing a Corvette around the track!

Nice Bill,
I think it's cool. If the Grand babies are gonna run em you might wanna think about guard rails. If the controls are the plunger type you can put a piece of rubber tubing around it so they can't push it down but so far( Just split the tubing and slide it over) . If it's the rotary type you can fashion a stop  that oughta slow em down a little. Keep em from slammin one into your expensive engines.
Have fun.....and they're right ,it is your railroad/ slot car track
Happy Easter

I do enjoy scale 3-rail. I have 4 scale N&W steamers. 2 class"A", 1 class "Y6b"

and a scale "J" with about 25 coal cars and scale passenger cars. When I could run scale on the outer loop, the 2-6-6-4 with 25 coal car and caboose would cover about half of my 13x16 layout. But at eye level, it was blast to watch the train go by. Reminds me of gorwing up in Virginia. Lots of coal cars, but vague memories of the big steamers. Dad would be stopped at a crossing, me and my two brothers would guess at how many coal cars the train would have. ALOT!!
