Been looking at this product. Lionel still offers it although it looks like they have made no improvements since the post-war model. My question is the TT has a length of 17.5". Most modern engines including LionChief locos have lengths exceeding this length. But, should the length of the wheelbase be the determining factor? Anyone with experience with this product?

Lionel remade the #350 Transfer Table on the Post War tooling, but with can motor and modern controller. They also made the add-on sections to expand your "pit". They've been out for almost 20 years I think, so any "new" product will be unsold inventory.
Yes, wheel base length is the determining factor.

Nice, and thank you for replying, but too expensive and too much work. Hence, my preference for toy trains. To each his own.
