I'm guessing 3D printing has been discussed here before, and it's potential for parts even one off models, or modeling details, but I thought this particular device looks pretty cool, affordable and could have some immediate impact on modeling & detailing ability soon (supposedly available this Fall for around $50).  Curious what y'all think of it, and 3D printing's potential in general?

It does seem a bit crude & items look a bit fragile, but you know how quickly they improve things.  The Eiffel Tower Model inparticular caught my eye.

I hope it's okay to post this in this section.

Just watched the doodler vid (oh my, Clutch! Great mood music) Personally I can hardly wait for affordable 3d printing. Custom bodies, "paint jobs", figures, structures,....the list is endless. I think the doodler is a great idea but the CNC type can produce much better quality. Size limits vs $ are whats holding me back.

Trees, cactus and other 'free form' items MAYBE.....but anything with rigid scale tolerances would be very difficult. This pen was posted on our model car forum about a year ago and some said they'd just draw a car body......I doubt anyone can do that....with this pen.

3D printers are being used pretty extensively in the model car hobby.....custom wheels being number one.
