That was the 1948 version

Actually over ten years ago. Time flies. These are the 1938 and 1940 cars, not the 1948 cars.
Pete
One less '38 set with add ons available for you guys!!!!!!
Cheers,
Price
This will be the version that does not have the "Proto-Weight" feature where the cars weigh as much as the real ones did.
Would be nice for Scott to offer ball bearing trucks (at a fair price) to those of us who bought the original sets. I'd be willing to pre-order them.
Any idea when the reservations close?
I agree with @KarlDL 's post above!

Yay! Great news!
Sent back all items from an alternate manufacturer so am excited about the opportunity to get my hands on some legit colored products…
A few questions about these cars as I haven’t ordered from GGD in the past and they don’t have a TON of details/pictures on their site…. If someone has the first run, is there a Dreyfus somewhere that is a close color match for these products? I’ve had a few 3rd Rail engines in the past and have never been all that impressed with their “runability”/ track performance.
Based on first run, do the diner cars have the 6 wheel trucks as was the case in real life?
Typically, how long does it take for them to get produced? In other words, how much time do I have to start saving my shekels before payment would be due? (Ballpark)
Anyone able to post some pictures of the other cars in the set? (Beyond the observation car on GGD’s website)

Go to BigJohnsbigtrainsale.com. He is in the process of listing/showing all GGD cars as a reference. The 38 is shown / from run 1 in 2009.
Here’s a pic of the diner - 6 wheel trucks
Cheers 😉
The 3rd Rail Dreyfuss produced at the same time the cars were offered is an exact match. The MTH engines made around 2016 are very close. Always the question is whether the next run will match the first run.

We have been working behind the scenes to ensure the new release models by MTH Electric Trains will be painted the correct shade of gray. Lets hope GGD's encore passenger set is too. Between all the manufacturers, the market for prototypical 20th Century trains from 1938 to 1948 should be satisfied.

Reservations just opened yesterday lol! I’m sure you have plenty of time
Will be interesting to see if they get enough orders. I wonder what they need in terms of volume of pre-orders to make these a go. 8 car sets about $3,000, individual add-ons about $380 per car. Lionel's market prices on the newly released, controversial sets are a little more than half that per car at Mr. Muffin. Plastic, not aluminum. Such are the times and market realities. I'm sure the Golden Gate Depot cars will be quite beautiful and accurate. The MTH cars are presumably likely much less expensive. Anyone know the pre-order pricing? Couldn't find them on the Muffin site yet.

I think that I paid less than $2,000 for the entire GGD 12-car set (three 4-car sets) from the first release. That would cost more than $4,500 now. Prices have really gone up!

I'm going to THIRD this request, along with Mike's support already posted above.
I remember when I got these cars, I already had a 3rdRail version of the Dreyfus Hudson. That poor locomotive wouldn't budge with these cars behind it. I wound up selling the 3rdRail locomotive and replaced it with the 2016 MTH version mentioned above. Although the MTH locomotive can pull this consist, it isn't without a struggle. And forget about traversing any inclines.
For what it's worth, I'd also likely be in a for a set of trucks for the Daylight cars I have, as well. They're also from the original run and also are a chore to pull around.

When one Pittman isn’t enough, add a second. While you are ordering your cars just add E units as needed.
