I figured this would the best spot for this, since there's no specific 3rd Rail forum. Does anyone happen to know the gear ratio of 3rd Rail diesels, specifically their 3 rail E7?

Why not eMail Scott Mann at Sunset/3rd Rail?
I'm not sure why the gear ratio is of interest - wouldn't the speed range be more useful? I have several of the 3rd rail E7s, have in the past discussed their speed with Scott; IMO they are a bit slow...

I have a rather slow first run Sunset E7 A-B-A (the B unit is powered by a cable connecting to the electronics in an A unit). When the E7's first came out, I discussed the speed issue with Scott and he suggested a possible fix was to replace the tooth belt drive wheel on the motors with a larger diameter one. I have larger toothed belt drive wheels but haven't installed them yet. Scott improved later run Sunset diesels with all-wheel electrical pickup and independent electronics in B units, but I don't know if the speed issue was addressed by changing the drive belt ratio. As an aside - an O scale E7 with the same drive train as a similar EMD F unit would run slower since E units have 36" wheels while EMD F units have 40" wheels.

I thought someone here might know the gear ratio 3rd Rail uses in their diesel locomotives, but apparently not. I'll have to email Scott anyway.
