I'm thinking of looking for a 3rd rail Niagara, 3 rail. Anyone own one ? What do you think ?

3rd Rail has one for sale in their "Boneyard"!
It apparently has been upgraded to TMCC and ERR Cruise Control w/synch. puff/chuff.
Not inexpensive.
Only the one available.
But, hey, it's a 3rd Rail Niagara!

I can only say I really like my 2 3rd Rail locos. Smooth and nice details.
I do not have a Niagara from 3rd....but I do have a Williams scale brass version.....a BIG fantastic loco......
So logic follows a 3rd Rail Niagara would be great!!!
I have one. It has the nicest details compared with the diecast versions as you would expect and does run smooth. They came with TAS TMCC and 4 chuffs but not EOB.
I got mine second hand but it was never out of the box. I had to do quite a few repairs on it when I got it as screws were missing and the boiler weight had come loose had knocked out a few details. I expect this with brass though. Upgrading it to EOB is on my to do list.

Here are some pics comparing the 3rd Rail Niagara to the Lionel Century Club version. Too bad they both have the same cab number. I am hoping I can get different smoke box emblem from MTH when they release their PS3 engines.

Thanks Norton,
Pretty big difference.

I have one, and it is one of the very best runners, out of the 18 or 19 Sunset/3rd Rail products I own & run. I would almost want another one, if it came with a different road number.
Love mine, converted to EOB cruise many moons ago. By far my best runner. Now I'm going to upgrade the railsounds to ERR new Daylight railsounds.
I have been working on my MTH Niagara and thought I would post some pics for comparison. I believe this model predates both the Lionel and 3rd Rail version. I think it stands up well and came with 4 synchronized chuffs which neither of the others have out of the box. The feedwater pump and water line are replacements as is the deck apron.

How about the New MTH Niagara in the latest catalog I think. Any changes to the original MTH model?

I don't think we will know until they are released but I think most of the engines with wireless tethers now have aprons. I considered ordering the set with the MDT reefers but the engine will be numbered 6024. You would think they could have done a little research and avoided previously released cab numbers.

Thanks for the photos - I never cared for the prototype, but those are handsome models.
I have three Williams PRR 0-6-0s, and Hot reminded me - they are all three the same road number. I can easily change that, since I do that kind of stuff all the time - I just never notice. I do notice that they run on five foot gauge track. Hopefully, if I ever measure them they will turn out oversize. One will surely get renumbered; it is going to get the longer cab some day.
