For those out there who have some 3Rd Rail RDC cars in need of traction tires, check this.  First let me state this RDC car is the most beautiful RDC I have ever seen.  I am lucky to own a few.  As you also know the traction tires do crack and break.  Replacements have been impossible to come by.  While working on an American Flyer by Lionel U33-C diesel I made the following observation.  The replacement tires that come with that engine do stretch and fit the 3Rd Rail wheels very good.  I did one set and have been running them with good luck so far.  The flyer tire stretches very smooth and rides the groove in the RDC wheel very good.  If you are in need of tires, give it a try.

Great tip, thanks!

I just wish 3rd Rail had given buyers the option of no traction tires - this is a model of a self-propelled unit which often ran by itself and rarely (even if using non-powered "trailer" models) ran with more than a few cars.  If we don't need traction tires, it is one less maintenance headache to deal with.
