Agreed, the 2-rails look great with the fixed pilots, but the electro-couplers stick out too far due to a design limitation.

I plan on replacing mine with Kadee couplers and new snowplows where applicable on my 4 units.  On the roads that don't have snowplows, I'll fill in the gap with styrene and paint to match.  Colors are matched from Tru-Color paints.

Eric - thanks for the great review!  I'm thrilled with my 4 units.  However, after reviewing sample models back in February, I wish I had gotten mine all in 2-rail.  That's a personal problem!

Beautiful loco, great colors, seems to run sweetly. The "old RS" sounds are just fine with me. The couplers will not do.

Too bad that the remote coupler thing is expected on any 3RO loco, as this attempted marriage of that feature with traditional 2RO truck design isn't working esthetically. The remote coupler is only good at the loco anyway, so....

Gorgeous. It only needs some short-shank hi-rail O dummy couplers (or Kadees) to look just right. If I were still buying, I would be counting my train money right now for a pre-order on the second run.

I really don't find the electrocouplers all that more intrusive than others from previous third rail runs and also other manufacturers. Especially on the Conrail units that have the extended front porch.

I think one of the differences though i.s that it has a fixed pilot and thus a larger hole for the coupler which makes it look a little odd.

Jonathan, For the second run, would you consider offering undecorated locomotive shells as a separate sale item?

That would a call by Scott Mann as I am just a consultant.  However, there was an undecorated locomotive done in Run 1.  It was an early phase unit as I recall.  Perhaps phase 1a2?  We tried to group them as much as possible by phase so we only had to do 5 separate tools for the bodies.

An alternative if you are just looking for the shell is to see if someone wants the drive only and work out some kind of deal.  The SD40-2 chassis is common with the SD38-2 and the SD45-2 so perhaps there is a modeler out there that want's a chassis for one of those variations.

Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to reach out to Scott or Shani in the office and simply ask if it's possible.
