Hi All,

I'm looking for some support from those who know ERR/TMCC better than I. I recently purchased a 3rd Rail Steamer, but had to take apart the boiler to perform a drawbar repair. Before removing the boiler, I at least plugged in the harness, to make sure everything functioned correctly. The smoke worked fine in TMCC mode using a Cab-2 controller. Smoke Unit is a Train America Studios Unit.

Fast Forward - I successfully repaired the drawbar, and reassembled the locomotive. Then, I could not get the smoke unit - Heater or Fan - to work (Again in TMCC mode with a Cab-2 controller). I took the boiler off again. Fan worked fine under a 9V battery. All the harness connections seemed OK, but it looked like one of the purple power leads from the smoke unit to the TMCC/CONV/OFF switch broke off. I reattached where it had broken off, but still am having no luck. All other loco functions still work. I tried resetting the locomotive, but still am having no luck. Any suggestions from the Pros out there? I don't run smoke all that often, so it's not a show stopper, I just like things working properly. Let me know if you need any extra details.

Thanks,

Ben

Just closing the loop here for anyone who's curious. I checked to make sure there was still decent resistance in the smoke unit, that checked out.

Then, I started probing the circuit according to the cruise commander wiring diagram. Voltage before the switch, no voltage after it  The TMCC/CONV/OFF switch was a dud. I run in command only, so I wired the smoke unit lead to be TMCC controlled all the time. Smoke unit runs fine now.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to look.
