Thank you for the responses to my question.  The 2929 production predates my membership to the forum, as I also display my lack of ability to research an inquiry.  If these models ever come up at auction, I am missing that as well.

I've yet to see a 3rd Rail 2900 come up on any of the auction sites. The 3751 class comes up regularly.

If you really want a 3rd Rail 2900 class I'd suggest posting in the want to buy section of the forum.

Last time one of these came up, it went for $1000 earlier this year on eBay.

Great suggestion to post a want to buy add, as Lou suggested Rob.

I think there has only been one previous Erie Pacific offering by Max Gray models, but it must be pretty rare because I have yet to actually see one.

Daniel,

I could go for one of these myself.  A K5 with the larger 6 axle tender, all the better.

For Reruns, I would Love to see 3rd rail paint these up...

Still dreaming of a late UP 4-10-2 or bull moose. However,

Since they've been having a lot of recent success with diesels, how about an ALCO RSC-2?  UP in D.S. road numbers.  Milwaukee, Seaboard, Soo Line.......

Long nose and number boards. Fixed pilot steps, Proper trucks.   I'd be a buyer....

I would go for Alco RS3 in a heartbeat with fixed pilots and done in Erie/EL or NKP

Rutland and NYC for me

Agreed.  Not to mention the Atlas version of the ALCo RS3 is not true to scale on some of the key hood/cab dimensions.  A reasonable representation?  Yes.  A true scale model?  Absolutely not!  The Weaver tooling was actually the closest to true scale dimensions.

I would love to see Scott offer them.  CNJ, D&H, LV...and who knows what other roads for me!

Amtrak E60 PLEASE!

Probably NOT a big seller, I my opinion.

 Think also Heritage units...

You mean like all the Heritage units both Lionel and MTH have already produced?

Isn’t one of things sunset models that sunset Models does are prototypes that aren’t common and the major manufacturers stay away from because it’s not a big seller?

I have voted for an E60 many times and I am glad to see some of be other folks chime in here. I will pay for 3 in advance - not enough to warrant a run but I am willing to put my money where my mouth is.

Granted it’s a regional locomotive, but there’s actually about 7 or 8 varieties that can be done  (Amtrak Phase 2, Phase 2 with ghetto grills, E60CH Phase 3, E60MA Phase 3, NJ transit E60CH, Desert Wind E60, NdeM E60), and it has more a following than you may think.  It would go very nicely with the Amfleet scale car offerings.

My earliest memories are riding with my father to Trenton, NJ station and watching the E60s blast into Trenton with the morning clocker - with up to 10 to 15 cars.

As a kid, I always felt the closet you could get to running with the bulls in this country was to stand and try to hold your ground on Trenton platform near the escalator as the evening clocker arrived and the army of gray suits fought to get up the single escalator and staircase at the west end of the platform.

Ya know, who would have thought a Virginian EL2B would have sold well but it still got made right?

Thanks Christopher N&W.

I did see someone offer to trade for one, but only if I had a 2 rail Challenger to trade. The person got a little snarky when I offered to buy it outright.  It was quite a while ago.

So then, if 3rd Rail already has the tooling, then tuning-up the D&H Challenger molds and adding ERR would be a great way to offer it again.

SCOTT, ARE YOU LISTENING?

Can't blame a guy for trying!

I might be interested in an E60 as well, although my preference would be for an F40PH simply because those roamed the Earth in my neck of the woods.

I'm still holding out for a D&H Challenger, but I would support the idea of the Erie K5. There are a lot of Erie fans from Chicago to New York/New Jersey......probably a better market.

There is currently a used Max Gray Erie K5 on the market for $2K - just way too much, especially considering they are likely in need of running gear modifications and repaints.  Finding a reasonably priced one might be an impossibility anymore.

The only other alternate I can find is to 2-rail a brass Williams heavy pacific, and then add a considerable amount of detail, including the Elesco feedwater heater.  Although cheaper, it would still be very time consuming to hunt down the detail castings, and scratchbuild all the parts.

In short - I would 100% purchase an accurate K5 with modern running gear.  Happy to buy one in undecorated 'kit' form as well, if such an option is more economically feasible for Sunset.

What tooling is that?  There is no tooling for brass models.  Even the casting masters and any jigs are recycled or trashed after the models are completed.

Daniel,  keep beating the drum! I know several guys, myself included, that would love a K5.

There are many great pictures of Erie K-series locomotives on the internet, with some travelling right through my area, but all of that was well before my time.

When I saw this particular postcard painting/colorized photo of a K5 pulling the Erie Limited, I became very interested in the prototype railroad.  So far I've been fortunate to collect the GGD passenger cars depicted in the scene one at a time.

Forgive my ignorance.

I can't help but chime in with my ultimate dream locomotive for the wish list here...  Not a Pennsy K4, but a CB&Q K4 - a ten wheeler - in particular locomotive #710 and perhaps an alternate variation of one of her other surviving sisters.  The K4 engines were built in the B&MR shops in Havelock, Nebraska (northeast Lincoln) only a mile or so from where I grew up, and #710 remains on display in downtown Lincoln today.  Two other sisters survive, #719 in Alliance, NE and #915 in Council Bluffs, IA.  I actually created train simulator models of all 3 engines a few years ago but would love having a 3 rail O scale version to join the 3rd rail CB&Q Hudson and Mikado I already have.  They'd be nice medium / small size engines for branch line duty on smaller layouts.  If one were ever made getting at least one wouldn't even be a matter of discussion - I'd have to have it

Here’s a thought....

I know there is no appeal for steam re-runs... but...

3rd Rail produces the finest ATSF 3700 class 4-8-2 ever made. I’m sure many missed the shot and others may want a second one in their stable. This may be the best steam imported by Sunset, Gary Schrader was responsible for the research and development and he did an exceptional job.

Bill Davis is selling one at the moment, but sadly no funds for me at the moment. I blame Scott, between The Rocket, the Hiawatha and the upcoming L-105 I’m tapped out!

3rd Rail is coming out with ALCO FA-1 and FA-2 diesels.  What I would buy is the as delivered Pennsy paint scheme on a FA-1, which 3rd Rail is not making.  They are doing the Pennsy on their FA-2, but the FA-2 has been done by others and is too late for my era.  Anyone else interested in a Pennsy FA-1?  A FA-1/FB-1 set would be great.
