I have been wanting an Imperial Big Boy for a while now, and since MTH has decided yet again not to catalog the Southern 630, I guess will be ordering one. I just need to decide which road # to get, so I am asking the opinion of the forum. Which # would be your choice and why.

I have the VL BB in 4014 because they are going to refurbish and run this number again. Hopefully it all works out?
One of each. 4014 with oil tender and 4004 as built.
I don't have any steam and probably won't be getting any, but if I did I would probably get the 4014 for reasons already mentioned. It's being restored and will hopefully see the rails again someday.
4014-Looks good on the engine and is easier to say...sounds better.
And it will run again.
I regret not buying #4004 because it's the oldest in existence.

+1
If they have the 4014 with an oil tender version in RK, if not, just get the premier 4014
I know that the Economy is not very friendly to many of us, but I would try to get the Premier because the Railking version Just looks very Ugly. I highly doubt this but they are going to make the sounds sound like the real one when the UP Steam Program makes a recovery. So get the Premier if you want the smoking and quilable whistle.
No one has yet commented on or asked - what UP BB route is most interesting to you? Before ordering my VLBB, I did a little research of all available road numbers and routes and found the Cheyenne route to be historically quite interesting so I decided on that road number. Plus I used to date a very beautiful girl named Cheyenne. Consider this, consider what region you are modeling and consider that a road number importance is related in context to your modeling world.

Not quite sure what you mean by that but, ALL the UP 4000 class 4-8-8-4 locomotives were assigned to the territory between Ogden, Utah and Cheyenne, Wyo., with occasional side trips south out of Cheyenne to Denver, CO.. Thus, the UP 4000s did NOT operate system wide on the Union Pacific.
