6-14167 Lift Bridge

I realize there are many topics (most old) on this bridge but I could not find the answer. So, I pulled my bridge out and about to find a place for it on the new layout. Yes, I know very LOW clearnance! Many of my locos barley fit. So, Im wondering, how to remove the counterweights (not going to operate it as such, but it is a very pretty piece), so to increase the clearance by 1/4 inch When the bridge is full down the counterweights are still slightly in the way Thanks
