Hi: I'm considering using a Lionel 6-22983 transformer for power to my MTH buildings along with a power distribution block. The transformeer is rated for 10 AMP. If my math is correct, I could conservatively light 50 bulbs with this transformer and power distribution block if I assume 1.5 AMPS per bulb. Thoughts?

Well, I'd actually recommend a variable transformer so you could reduce the voltage. Also, have you considered one of the older Lionel Type Z transformers for the job? It gives you four adjustable voltages, it gives a lot more flexibility at powering accessories, you may not want 18 volts on everything. This allows you to have multiple set voltages for different buildings/accessories.

Hmm... 50 times 1.5 is 75 amps, I think you slipped s decimal point there.
Thanks for that advice. I'd appreciate other thoughts. Also, I did slip a decimal point. Thanks for catching that. Each bulb is assumed to be .15 AMPS.
I agree with John's suggestion that being able to reduce the voltage to lights is a great feature for a layout. This is what I do on mine. Reducing the voltage allows you to control the bulbs' illumination levels. In one area you may want the bulbs to be at their brightest, and in others areas dimmer bulbs may look better to you. If you have a transformer with multiple outputs, you have more options. The Z is of course a good choice, as is a postwar ZW. Both have plenty of power and four independently controlled outputs.
I just mentioned the Z as it is typically cheaper than the ZW and has the same capacity. Obviously, the ZW will work as well and give you four outputs.
Thanks for the advice. You have me convinced!
FWIW, I saw a bunch of these at the last York show in the $50-60 range. A great price for four adjustable outputs on a 250 watt transformer!
