Earlier RMT had announced an ARMY BEER RMT-86131 woodside reefer car. This particular car was referenced to a unique WWII story about how an American GI - Vincent Speranza of Staten Island, NY - during the Battle of the Bulge brought some beer to his injured colleagues in a Bastogne Hospital.
NOTE: This RMT 86131 ARMY BEER 36ft wood side reefer car can be pre-ordered now from your favorite train store hobby dealer. Only 300 cars will be made and each car is uniquely numbered.
This past March 2023, the 98-year-old veteran skydived as part of a ceremony commemorating WWII paratroopers.
“Jumping is the most fantastic thing in the world,” he told Staten Island Live. “The last jump I made was in 1945, and when I reached about age 80, I started training for another jump. I said, ‘I’m going to be gone soon, and I gotta just do it one more time.’”
Vincent Speranza, the American paratrooper who became known as the soldier who doled out beer to his wounded comrades during the Battle of the Bulge, died Wednesday (2 August 2023) at the age of 98.
