I have a Lionel 1995 C&O Yellowbelly Hudson that I have replaced the tmcc LCRU in. Ever since I replaced it the smoke has not worked and the function to turn the head light off doesn't work. I have test the resistor in the smoke unit to see if it works and it does. I have also tested to see if any current is coming out of the smoke pin connector on the LCRU and no power is coming out of it and any of the other pins besides the one the light is connected to. So I have an engine with no smoke and a light that won't turn off. Does anybody have a solution to this issue.

Did you do a factory reset when you changed the LCRU ?

Factory reset with code 4, yes.
Hmm, I don't know then. Well anyways here's a link to Lionel reset codes .

There are no reset codes for the LCRU1 contained in the 6-18043 C&O Yellowbelly.
If those functions don't work, and nothing else has changed, then it's probably time to replace the LCRU1.

Then I'd say all bets are off, as it's hard to say exactly what the problem could be.
As a rule, LCRU1's -- the ones with the stick-pin connectors and hard-wired motor leads -- don't accept reset codes. Those were introduced with the LCRU2 the next year.
The LCRU1 got its programming depending on whether certain wires were grounded or not. There were three modes -- steam loco with smoke and front headlight, diesel with directional lighting, or diesel with strobe light.
The loco's wiring diagram can be found here.

i am having the same issue with the smoke unit not working as well. sometimes the light works and sometimes it doesn't. if i cycle too fast between forward and neutral then reverse the sound goes out but then comes back. about two months ago my sound board burnt up on the layout. Mr. wagner from trw was able to fix it. this man knows his stuff when it comes to issues with electronics running tmcc. the lcru from trainz.com may have been bad as im sure the part was used. i bought an original part from lionel when the sound board burnt up. Not knowing what the problem was my thinking was to replace all the electronics while the parts are available. looks like i am going to have to put the new lcru in now. again Mr. wagner from trw knows his stuff and his knowledge is extensive. If you need a tmcc engine repaired trw is your goto person.
thank you

Note that the LCRU had a small TO-92 triac for the smoke unit, so it's really easy to cook those.
John thank you for the information.
