Did Lionel ever make a bridge that was just one 027 section long, 9"? I think that one of the later year plastic truss bridges is 9 inches, but did they ever make a 9 inch girder style?

they made a 10" girder bridge
The girder bridge and short extension bridge are both 10" long. I think there might have been a metal girder bridge from the PW era that might be a little longer. Never saw a 9" girder bridge.
Was hoping there was a 9 out there, I have a 10 inch all metal Lionel girder, and a steel base but plastic side US Steel one, but they are both 1 inch too long for my retro 027 project in the spot I really wanted to use it, between 2 back to back turnouts, but guess it will have to go somewhere else.
What if you cut 1" from the center of the girders and glue the two halves together? Also cut the base and super glue a splice piece?
If you'd be satisfied with just the two outside girders (no base) to glue to your layout top up against your trackage, Peco makes a set of plastic 8.75" long girders. They are advertised as HO but seem to be fine for O scale and are pretty cheap at around $8.00.

As Joe said, cut one inch out of a Lionel girder bridge, either plastic or metal. If you check it out, you will see that each web section is one inch between the webs where you would cut and this would make the cut line somewhat unnoticeable except for perhaps the top of the girder web. That could be touched up with putty and sanded smooth. I have plenty of girders and bases (all metal) if you should need them. What is also nice about them is that they have detail on both sides.
