A Visit to the Western Maryland Scenic RR 10/1/17

Found that the WMSR would be operating three trains to Frostburg today, and the early one, at 9am caught my eye. Thought the light would be good, since the weather was going to be great, and it was, bright blue sky and no clouds.

Kinda snappy today, though, the first frost of the year on the car today! No mind, we strike out to the Scenic and get a ticket to ride. My contribution this month! One of the reasons for out visit today soon arrived from the shops, and I made a few photos before boarding.

She looks pretty darn good pulling into the station.

This is, as you can see car 112, the last car in the train. I liked that, we'll get some views of the locomotive on inside curves.

One such photo at Helmstetter's. This was from the vestibule, and I was not out there long..too cold!

Most of the folks I spoke to today liked the new colors on the locomotive. I liked it, and I'm sure some of the kids who will ride the WMSR will like the big red and white (and black) locomotive.

Thanks for posting Ed. I see the foliage is still very green. Won't be long before it starts to turn. I hope to get up there for that. The Wild Mary really looks good. thumb

Nice pix Ed; thanks for posting! I much prefer the "circus scheme" on that GP30 as opposed to its former black with speed lettering. I only come north once each year in the summer months but, will have to plan a trip to Cumberland to ride behind this next summer. It's been a few years since my last visit to the WMSR so I reckon I'm due.

I've mentioned this in other WM posts but, this is the paint scheme I remember the most from seeing WM engines in this scheme parked at N&W's Rook Yard in Pittsburgh back in the early '70's.

I must admit, the red and white looks good on the GP30.

I was previously not a fan of this scheme, as things were changing when WM adopted red and white. I personally preferred the well-washed look of the black era on WM. WMSRR will keep this engine clean though, and it will look good in red and white for years.

Thanks for scraping the frost off your windshield and going out to make these photos, Ed.
