Hello! I am trying to add a quilling whistle to My MTH LIRR 4-4-2 Atlantic (20-3111-1). I am trying to use the whistle file from the LIRR G-5 4-6-0 (20-3380-1). I tried directly adding the whistle file (#152) from one engine to the other, which added the whistle, but not the quilling function. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Can't. Only an engine with clip 3 open (or a later one with clip 3 that has the quill clip in it) can have it put in.
Ain't ever going to happen, this is an ancient 5V PS/2 board, it doesn't have and never will support quilling whistle.

Yup. Only the late (2009ish) PS2 3V boards, PS3 boards, and PS32 boards support the quilling whistle function.
Does that mean that any PS3 board supports quilling whistle?

The board hardware supports the feature, it's the sound and chain files that will determine if you have it.
Okay because I have an MTH railking Empire state express with proto sound 3 and I also wanted to add a quilling whistle to that engine as well
Yes all PS-3 boards support it with the sound file. MTH only put the feature into Premier engines, so you have to use a premier Sound file. This will change scale speed on your RK engine. Maybe light features too.
The PS-2 3V that had the feature used a special PS-2 3V board that had the flash code to support it. That flash code could only be programed into boards with the flash feature and had to be done at MTH. Most PS-2 3V are not flash capable. G

Just out of curiosity, since the changes at MTH, let's say you had just such a PS2 3V board (one with 5V style connectors) that came out of a fixed or upgraded engine, who would be a POC to have MTH flash it since the service center is no more?
I don't know if you're going to find a source to do that.
Used the parts email link. They should respond. They still had the equipment to do it. G
