Hello OGR - need advice!

I acquired two new MTH Aux Water Tenders: (1) SP Daylight Scale Premier Auxiliary Water Tender #20-3037, and (2) N&W "striped" J-Class Auxiliary Water Tender #20-3126.

I know it would be ambitious to modify so they could be run with the Legacy (GS-4, J-class #611 & #600) or Vision (GS-5) engines I have - park this WANT for a moment ...

If I just wanted them modified so: (a) a backup light worked, and (b) could couple/uncouple even just using an uncoupling track, I imagine new or modified trucks with rollers to get current inside for lights seems doable:

- Is it more complicated than that?

- Does anyone do that kind of work, or can you recommend a reliable shop - contact me separately?

BACK TO MY PARKED WANT: what would this entail and who can you recommend that does that kind of work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

Well, the easiest way is probably to modify the main tender slightly and add a tether.  The stand-alone TMCC or Legacy water tenders have a TMCC or Legacy board in them, and the railings are the antenna.  Obviously, the MTH tenders don't need an antenna as they're all tethered, so their handrails are not insulated.  Don't forget to swap out the PS2 or PS3 coupler for a Lionel compatible one.
