I am in the process o building benchwork and designing my track plans.
I am restarting the hobby after a 15 year hiatus when I was in medical school residency moving all over the country.
I have mostly post-war Lionel engines with a couple of new weaver, williams, and lionel engines. I believe they are all conventional control (no dcs) I have two old ZW's a KW, 1099, RW, and two CB80's I got with a couple starter sets received as gifts. [The fast track is all assigned to my seasonal Christmas layout]
Am I a fool for thinking about just setting up old school blocks and using relays for train control?
I want to automate the block process with trains waiting for block ahead to be cleared prior to proceeding.
I would have relatively set mainline voltage and then plan to have separate throttle controls near yards and engine facilities.
I had planned to reuse as much of my old sectional lionel track and switches as possible. (Likely my lower level with O-54 min curves and O-72 switches will use sectional) Was debating buying track off ebay for upper level to be gargraves vs atlas straights with ross switches and curves.
I have some used gargraves flex track that I may reuse if it seems unkinked after unpacking. I am thinking that my old curved flex track will likely not unbend well.
A lot of disjointed thoughts I know.
