I got a American Flyer Set 20340 for Christmas and I do not know too much about it, except that it was made in 1957 and is known as the New Clipper. I am wanting to know how scarce this set is and how strong the engine is. Any information would be appreciated.

New Haven PA's, from what I remember when I followed postwar Flyer, generally command a premium. I'm sure the Flyer enthusiasts here could give you more detailed information.
The PA's are dual motored and are regarded as good runners and pullers.

Thanks for the catalog link Rusty. I got my American Flyer set for Christmas in 1957. It is shown at the bottom of page 42. It came with a 283 Pacific, 12 cars, caboose and all of the track shown.

I believe the 497 that came with the 20340 set only had a single motor.
That's correct Craig. The 494 NH PA had the dual motors.
I appreciate the help, thank you. One more question, any suggestions for oil to use on AF trains? It seems to struggle pulling its coaches. However, when not pulling them, it flies.
Can't go wrong with LaBelle lubricants. 107 for axle bearings, 102 for gears.
