it has done this about 3 times, usually when not running for a few days. Any reason this would happen?

The DCS Remote or the DCS App?
Dcs remote
Are you saying just proto-3 engine end up in the inactive list after a remote power down and power up again?
are you using the "read" after powering up the remote?
Even if the engines are missing the watch dog they should remain in the active list unless the "read"is pressed.. If not found away they go to the inactive list.
Maybe you've found a slight glitch?
All the engines are proto 3. I have not used the read button
David,
There are only 4 ways of which I'm aware that an engine can wind up in the Inactive Engine List:
- Pressing READ when an engine is on an unpowered track
- Selecting an engine in the Active Engine List and pressing the INA soft key
- Selecting a lashup as the active engine, which causes all of its member engines to move to the Inactive Engine List
- Restoring a backed-up remote into another remote where the backed-up remote had engines in the Inactive Engine List when it was backed-up.
If you didn't do one of the above, then please somebody tell me a 5th way. The remote simply cannot have done it all by itself.
Further, I've not seen or heard of any kind of a bug that can cause this behavior, either.
It may have been the lash up. I will see what happens and correct what I may have done wrong. It never did do it before the lash up of two diesels, hmm!
I decided to delete the engines and re-add them but so far I can't get any to add, all I get is the msg "no engine to add" , have tried several locations on the layout with no help.
Any ideas?
Also I could not get them to come out the inactive list. So I decided to delete them then re-add them.
Lets go back a bit.... Try the "read again" does your remote find the tiu?
Yes it does and of course the red light is lit.
Maybe time for a small test track or a remote reset. A reset will delete everything but give you a clean slate to start over eliminating any ID conflicts. Hope you have a programming track or a place to add with no other engines receiving power anywhere. Of course the tiu needs to be putting out a decent track signal.
I can' t remember if a engine with the same ID as a lash-up will add to the remote. ( did version 5 fix this issue?) A remote reset would eliminate this problem.
Gregg,
I can' t remember if a engine with the same ID as a lash-up will add to the remote.
That bug was corrected in DCS 4.30 and in DCS 5.0.
I will give it a try.
I'm getting power to the track, the TIU is working. Not sure about the dcs signal though.
Still getting " no engine to add" starting to look like a TIU problem.
Btw my TIU is a rev L
Anything else to try?
The only thing I can suggest is to try a different channel keeping in mind fixed 1 still needs power to light up the tiu (or an aux power supply).
Wouldn't hurt to try this one as well Menu/System/DCS set up/ AON ( turns the signal on to all channels)
Crazy thought are they both set to the same channel. If not, try that. If that doesn't work - I had an issue - reset the remote to the factory setting. Are / is your software in the TIU and Remote the same version? Just throwing it out.

Did you delete lashup and engines from remote? Do that and try again, if that doesn't work try a recover engine. G
I did delete lash up and all other engines and when I tried to recover I get no engine to recover. Tried it several times also. I have reset the TIU and remote without any improvement.
btw my TIU is rev L and 4.20. It is brand new and worked for a couple of months without any problems.
Dave
You may get it to work by trying a different channel. A small test track might be best at this point.
Have you tried gregg's suggestion using another channel...start with fixed 2 maybe. BTW i use 4.20 with 4 and 5 engine mu's...very stable.
I will be giving everything here a try.
I forgot to mention, do the engines stay dark & silent or power up with sound & light upon powering up the layout? If dark & silent they're seeing the dcs signal. (unless there's NO power on the track)
Well everything I tried has done nothing. Tried fixed 2 with no success. I removed the TIU and checked inside for anything loose. Time to send it off for repair.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Dave
One last shot at this and it can happen to the most experienced operators. The red out put from the tiu must always go to the center rail...(apparently it doesn't make a difference for proto-3 but it does sure does with proto2.)
