Ken as I recall MTH's Amfleet cars are approx 17.5 inches long, or roughly 15 ft shorter than the prototypes, much like their ACF pattern post-war lightweights, autoracks etc. I assume their rational is scale length would eliminate too many buyers due to track radious/layout constraints. (conjecture only)

MikeG, thanks for the info on OK, I have to ask were you got the plans for the metroliner shells they did for you or whethr you drew your own.

I've been asked several questions about the Southern Pacific Daylight sets. My understanding is that Ralph Brown produced 50 ten car sets of the train. Pete Plunkett produced another 50 sets plus some extra cars. I know this was done as I help box the sets.

The problem with doing another set of them is that the sides used different type of punches to make the sides, then another company makes the window frames. Pete figured out that it would take 50 sets to make it profitable. You can't order just one set of window frames and one set of car sides. The vendor that produced the window frames wasn't sure where they were the last time I talked with them. It is my understanding that if they are found I own the tooling.

Seeing that 3rd Rail, Pecos River Brass and PSC have all done the cars it may be tough getting enough preorders to do the train. I will start doing some investigations, starting with the window frames.

Sorry to be late to the party, I obtained plans from Jerry Jordak at PRRT&HS, I posted them on 3rd rail scale on PRR Silverliners and Metroliners, they were posted on September 22, 2011.

I also went to Amtrack who said 10 parlor, 20 snackbar coaches and if I remember correctly 41 coaches.

Obtained many pictures on internet and enlarged plans and pictures were what I gave ted at OK Engines to engineer correct scale window placement.

On Budd Metroliner on 3 rail trains on October 15, 2011 I posted pictures of parlor, snack bar and coach shells after machining window and door openings.

It is late tonight but you can access these other postings.
