For your viewing pleasure, short videos that I took yesterday of Amtrak action at the Pompano Beach Tri-Rail Station, with a little bonus coverage of a Train Meet with a Tri-Rail commuter train.

I had only planned on filming the two northbound Silvers (98 and 92) but later on in the day when I observed that both of the southbound evening trains from the Northeast were running on or ahead of schedule I had to run back out the station for some trainspotting.  We all know about the issues with Amtrak’s on-time performance and more times than not, the southbound Silvers arrive in South Florida from their 26+ hour journey from the northeast around 1-2 hours late.

12:41p – SB Tri-Rail P673 & Northbound Amtrak #92 Silver Star (P42 locos #132, n/a) **TRAIN MEET**

4:54p – SB Amtrak #91 Silver Star (P42 loco #202)

5:03p – SB Amtrak #97 Silver Meteor (P42 locos #131, #175)

Wow Kevin, that is a crystal clear video.  That must be a beautiful camera you have'.  You did a great job capturing the trains in action'.. Nice job, and thanks for posting.  Sure can't beat the weather in Florida, looks like it was a great day, in spite of the weather weenies up here in NY/CT said it was raining there today'...

Ted, it was a beautiful day with temps in the high 60's.  I love my change of seasons though.

I watched your video, well done. These are some photos I took last week after a heavy snowstorm at the CN & Amtrak Yard in Pontiac, Michigan.

2 Siemens Charger

Train number 350 has arrived on time from Chicago. November 12, 2019 @ 2:39 PM.

3 Businessclass

The Wolverine Business-class at sunset at the rear of a Siemens Charger.  Waiting on siding to return to Chicago.

4 Conductor going to work

Amtrak’s conductor has a cup of coffee as she is preparing to take train Number 355 @ 5:35 PM back to Chicago. A CN autorack goes speeding by kicking up snow at 40 mph. I was told that this train is taking finished vehicles from Flint - Saginaw plants to Windsor, Ontario via the Detroit - Windsor Railroad Tunnel.

5 Engineer Boarding

The engineer is boarding Amtrak’s Midwest Siemens Charger to Chicago.

6 Train 355 back to Chicago

Train Room Gary is waiting at crossing gate for Amtrak’s Wolverine to clear.

7 Signal Bridge

The Wolverine Line to Chicago approaches her first signal bridge.

I love that wintry weather.  Yes, you folks read that right.

EDDIE:

As TrainRoomGary said, Amtrak trains run “through” Pompano Beach.  The Amtrak stops in the South Florida metropolitan area listed in northbound direction are: Miami in Miami-Dade County; Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and Deerfield Beach in Broward County; Delray Beach and West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County.

RICH:

I purchased a tripod for doing my train spotting and plane spotting (especially with aircraft as trying to keep a steady camera on a plane that’s not flying in a straight line or level isn’t easy 😊) but in this instance, the videos were all done hand-held.  Both of the ground level videos and I was leaning against the railing at the end of the platform so I only had two dimensions to worry about and both the videos from the overhead walkway, the camera was basically resting on the horizontal cross beam.

LEW + BREEZINUP:

You’re welcome!

Enjoyed the footage, Kevin. Nice variety of Amtrak equipment.

Looking at one of Gary's photos, it looks like someone at Amtrak has a spelling problem. One would think they could spell the train's name correctly!

 5 Engineer Boarding

Hi Breezinup:  I took this photo with a 10x digital zoom lens at about 75 yards from the subject. Wolverine is spelled correctly. The sign “Wolverine Line” has a blinking and rolling motion making it appeared that it is spelled wrong. Below is a clearer photo..
