I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not to post this, but I have taken a strong interest as of late in Canadian railroading.  Why?  I have no idea other than trains of all types pique my interest and some more than others from time to time.  My cross-country trek of Canada in 2022 may have something to do with this also.

As many of you know, CPKC has restored Hudson H1b 2816 to run from Calgary to Mexico City in honor of the merger between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern creating the first truly continuous North American rail route from Canada to Mexico.  After much planning and a skillful restoration, 2816 started its journey on April 24th and will tour until it arrives in Mexico City on June 1st.

The CPKC site lists the various stops on their website.  There will be no doubt that many will photograph this historic run across three nations, and I hope the tour is a great success.

Weaver made a model of H1b 2816, but I have yet to find one.  Instead, I offer the Weaver H4d Hudson 2858 and H4e 2860 to honor this occasion.  Both are currently preserved and the 2860 last operated in 2010.

It would be great to see your models and posts of Canadian steam locomotives and especially the 2816 if you are lucky enough to catch it on its run over the next month.

Welcome to the club, Jonathan! Nice thread, but tread lightly. Once you cross the 49th parallel there's no coming back.  Just ask this two-tone gray blooded lifelong New York Central fan.

If you can forgive my usual poor photographic skills, here's my small collection of CP power offered as my contribution to your thread -

Henry Bowen certainly had a flair for combining the best of North American and British designs. Top-to- bottom, that's a 3rd Rail Selkirk, a Weaver Empress (2816), an MTH Royal Tour Royal Hudson, a Weaver standard Royal Hudson, and a pair of 3rd Rail FP7s as built for service on the original Canadian. Here's a somewhat better look -

The sundries on the shelves are from various CP Hotels I've been fortunate to stay at over the years.

I wish you well with your search for a Weaver Empress - beautiful model, as is the 3rd Rail Selkirk. If you stumble upon a Weaver Jubilee that needs a new home, you know where to find me.

Cheers,

- Mike

Mike,

I think I already crossed that line in the snow "VIA" the F40PHs I purchased from your hobby shop more than a few years back to power my late era Canadian.     Your photos unfortunately did not show up in your post.  I'd love to see them!  A Selkirk is on my Wish list too as I have to get my growing list of GGD heavyweight over the Canadian Rockies.

Do we see a visit to Revelstoke BC in your future jonathon?

I was lucky enough to visit Revelstoke in 2022 on the Rocky Mountaineer.  Visit is a loose term as the train did not stop.  I would have enjoyed a few days there though!  While certainly not a Hudson by a long stretch, I did catch this other mainstay of Canadian Pacific Railroading in the yard in a SD40-2.

How about 2816 at Steamtown in Vermont, October 1979

Thanks for sharing!  I went to Steamtown on a family vacation about that year, but I wasn't old enough to remember much other than there was a Big Boy and the CP locomotive that pulled the excursion train that I now know was a Pacific class.

For anyone following the journey of the "Empress", it has been performing flawlessly and is now touring the United States.  If you are lucky enough to see it in person, please post photos!
