I am powering my operating track for the Milk Car 6-26863 which has been working fairly well when I finally got the voltage tuned in.  It also runs a couple of uncoupling tracks the seem to be working quite well.  The Milk car all of a sudden will not work, it just buzzes.  I have two different cars and they both do the same thing.  The voltage seems to be ok and I have tried to vary it a bit with no success.  The uncoupling portion of the track works perfectly.

My track power is a Z-1000 brick and the two LionChief units seem to be functioning normally.  I have tried rewiring the operating track to the accessory output of the 1000 (14V), which originally sent the milk cans flying, but the Milk cars do the same buzzing and the solenoid does not move.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure the variable output is adjusting or varying? I'm asking because if you fail the TRIAC output of the CW80 it then won't vary properly and can be some level of fixed voltage or no voltage at all.

In other words- checking with a meter or light bulb load- validate the output of the CW80 is what you think it is, and can be adjusted.

High inducance loads like the milk car and many postwar style accessories make huge voltage spikes when you make then break contacts in switches or the track itself. These spikes are killer to anything electronic including and electronic controlled transformer like a CW80 or the MTH Zcontroller.

I have double checked the output for both the main and accessory power with a meter and it is adjustable 0V to 19V for both.  I am able to adjust the power for the accessory terminals 10V, 12V, and 14V and the stay set at the various levels when I turn the unit off and back on again.  BTW, I'm not using the MTH Z controller, I'm connected directly to the brick 18V output for the track since I running lion chief I maintain a track voltage of a constant 18V.  I tried connecting the operating track to the accessory output (14V) of the brick, which I had initially done but it the threw the milk cans quit a ways which is why I went with the CW-80 and the adjustable output of the accessory voltage, but it does the same buzzing sound and the solenoid does not activate.

That tends to point either to wiring between the transformer, track, controller, and the milk car. Or could be the mechanism in the milk car jammed. Because there is a chain of items in between, any of them could be limiting current or voltage to the coil and just not be enough to activate it. Alternatively, it could be jammed so bad no voltage can allow the solenoid to pull in, so it just never operates.

Another shot in the foot, on my part.  I neglected to check the neutral/ground wire connecting to two transformers and wouldn't you know it that's where the problem was.  All is well on the northern tundra once again.

I'd suggest changing the title of this thread.  I'd keep the info but the title is a bit misleading or at least add (Solved).
