Wow... just Wow!!! Say it ain't so!!!
If true, that would be terribly disappointing after such a long delay in delivering the entire set to date (with a couple more cars yet to be delivered). And for some folks now to not have an observation is just unforgivable. No excuse for that whatsoever. Let's hope it's just a bad rumor, and everyone who ordered an observation will have one for their CZ passenger train.

I sure hope you're right!
Is the finish more like the 2nd or first runs of cars?
more like the second. The first version slightly darker, but honestly when they are all lined up, you really don't notice the difference.

I happen to agree with this conclusion... and I have a critical eye. 9 times out of 10, observers will be watching a moving train where it's even more difficult to discern any difference. Although not 1,000% ideal, this was in no way even close to being a show-stopper for me. Those enthusiasts who stick with the entire roll-out will have an excellent CZ set which they will be very happy to own.

Just got an email from Western Depot about the latest Atlas-O shipment that has arrived at their shop. According to their website -- which is one of the nicest that reflects their real-time inventory online, they currently have "more than 12" EACH of the three 3-rail CB&Q, D&RGW, and WP observation cars. They also have smaller quantities in 2-rail.
Their prices are typically MSRP. But for something like this... if you want to purchase one now, they have plenty (as of this post)!

I get mine Saturday. Do you think Lionel is paying attention for future reference?
I don't think Lionel really cares. They have their work cut out on getting their NYC ESE newly tooled 21" cars to market.
Watching the bidding on the bay and the cars are already higher than I paid for them...

I think J Daddy has it right. Although now that Lionel is going down the path of 21" scale passenger cars, I would hope they're more serious about producing cars that follow the prototype (or very close to it) rather than just producing stuff in any shape or form -- assuming folks will buy it for no other reason than the Lionel name is on it.
Their 18" CZ was a disaster, and I suspect folks attending York might still see dealers trying to give that set away -- unsuccessfully.
