I've got a number of older MTH engines and was wondering if there is any updated info on when a PS3 upgrade might be released?

Al least a year or more away. I'll find out for sure at York when I talk to MTH.
Correct.
Given that there isn't a huge difference in functionality between PS/2 and PS/3, why wait? What is PS/3 going to offer that it's worth waiting a year or more for?
John, I would image that a lot of us were hoping for much improved sound over the earlier ones to come at least 'close' to Legacy sounds.
But, alas, there doesn't seem to be an appreciable difference from what I've read here this year....
I've seen three PS/3 locomotives "up close" and none have even come close to Legacy sounds. That's only a small sample, but the results aren't encouraging. I don't see any difference to the positive from PS/2 sound. I'd be glad to be proven wrong, I'd like a higher quality sound option for upgrades. I'm really disappointed in Lionel for not releasing at least some of the RailSounds 5 boards for upgrades.
Did the PS3 upgrade kits ever come out?
Soon. Marty Fitzhenry, a beta tester, has posted that he has done a few prototypes and will post more info when MTH releases him to do so.
That doesn't mean soon, how ever you define soon. That just means we are closer now. Still have to manufacture boards, and harnesses in numbers and get them shipped. Than assemble the kits.
I waited about 4 months to get a Slave kit assembled.
Also I'm not a fan of legacy sounds and Lionel will never make anything in 2rail. I have 5 new PS3 steam engines all premier and I am very happy with the sounds.

I have done the first PS3 upgrade and conversed with Mike today about it after he buried me over the Patriots game. He will be coordinating with Andy when information can post and the many pictures I have. It is his company and I only do testing.
Marty, aside from finding a place for the battery, does the new board take up as much space as the old?
RJR,
The footprint is the same.
Sorry Marty, didn't mean to jump in.....
Dave
Height also?
Very close. Just look at a PS-3 diesel board. Than picture it with another board plugged on top with connectors for the PS-2 harness.
I think you need to wait for PS-3 S boards to see a reduced footprint. G
Length is the same footprint. Width is almost 1/16 wider. The height is exactly the same. As soon as I get the word from Mike, I have enough pictures to answer all questions. These specs are with the adaptor board plugged in.
Thanks. So if one has a steamer with board in loco, the PS3 would be no easier to install, and the extra 1/16" might make it harder.
If I had a board in the locomotive, I would do a PS3 upgrade and put the board in the tender.
I'd like to see a PS/3 upgrade that didn't need the extra board and just used LED's for lighting.
Thanks, Marty. That's probably the best idea
