I've got a General from the Great Western/Lincoln Log set. Neighbor brought it over with a melted wire. Wire repaired, time for reassembly.
When he gave it to me I immediately noticed if you lifted it straight up, imagine yourself lifting it off the track, the front wheels sagged/dropped. Now trying to reassemble I don't see how the front of the wheels are supported?? Additionally, I don't seem to be able to get the two tabs in the engine frame to line up with the slots.
Any tips?

The front truck is held in place on a stud on the frame with a 'C' clip (#9 in parts view).
Unsure about your mention of the 2 tabs on the frame not lining up with what slots?

The motor assembly has the one horizontal screw holding it at the back of the cab. I don't see anything on the front side near the truck with the c-clip that holds it in place? Hence the drop/movement I see when I pick the engine up.

So no one has taken a General apart and can offer any incite on why the motor assembly drops when completely assembled??
Found it... There is a tab on the motor assembly that is broken. I kept looking at the screw on the front assembly holding nothing...
The broken plastic tab in photo 2 attaches to the tab sticking out by the axle in photo one.
Identified the problem, now to figure out a fix!!
I was afraid it was something like that, but I didn't have one to check. Honestly I thought it was going to be a molded post that was broken off.
I used to repair this type of thing by getting a chunky piece of plastic from a radio shack project box, and fit and glue it in. I wish I could offer more advice.
