I have great news from MTH.  The engines will start arriving in the US in January.  I will have one to review for the S Gaugian by mid January.

At last these engines will be in buyers hands!!

Bill,

Your finings are greatly received by this member and I can say i received the same news a few days ago. Although I wasn't certain my info was correct because I had heard this many times before. They will be coming in like Jersey Central and New York Central first then the others will follow. So they will be coming a little at a time. Definite info was not available but the Santa Fe's and the Union Pacific's will be the last to hit our shores in the US. Like you say I think they will be in the hands and on our layouts of our Members soon. Finally there will be closure to the F-3's from MTH an awe can move forward with our desires and possibilities.

    Thank You again.

Don

Mark,

I know I will get a DCS system.  They are also going to send me the application to run the trains with my android phone.  My guess is that they won't send the $60 version however.

Several years ago the publisher wanted me to do an article comparing DCS with Legacy.  Now with FlyerChief the comparison could get broader.  We will see if that article will still be done.

Bill, that is terrific news!

Will you be able to review all of the DCS functions? Will you have a DCS operating system available for your testing?

The reason I ask is since these engines will work in either conventional or command mode what system will you use? As MTH starts to release product it would be good to know if a customer would be OK with the entry level 50-1033 DCS Remote Commander Set for $59.95 or require some other much higher priced DCS system.

Mark

I've only got some basic knowledge about DCS and don't use it enough to be fluent, but I recall the DCS Remote Commander will allow you to run only one locomotive.  It's what's included in their starter sets.  There is only basic functionality: Speed, direction, bell, whistle/horn and I think couplers.  There is no means to select from multiple locomotives on the track nor access more of the features of DCS.

The quickest way to find out for sure is ask on the DCS section of the Control Systems Forum here.  The guys there have been working with ins and outs of DCS for years.
