what are your thoughts on this engine? Detail, sound. Do you really like it?

I'm generally happy with the appearance, sound and operation of mine. I wish both units of the A-A set had been powered, however. For pulling a consist of Atlas California Zephyr passenger cars I think it is underpowered.
The unit is missing a few details specific to CB&Q, e.g. grabirons. Also, only one set of steam generator intake and exhaust is modeled on the rear of the hood. The CB&Q units had two steam generators (and the various E9's depicted in the latest Lionel catalog show dual steam generator details).

My thoughts exactly. And since I'm pretty sure the CB&Q didn't run B-units with their E9 configurations, it's unlikely we'll see a powered B-unit offered by Lionel (assuming they'll stay true to the prototype).

Trust me the E9's will be able to pull the CZ consist of 11 cars. A buddy of mine who has the Pennsy version pulled 10 of the CZ cars that I have on his layout without any strain.
Of course this was on a flat and level surface.
