My ebay whites are too blue and warm whites are too yellow and not diffused. I need the type that are in the ps3 engines.

Some have coated blue white leds with Tamiya Acrylic X26 Clear Orange to get a little more warmth.
If you cannot find the best color with physical requirements.
I posted the same question last year. The white LEDs are always blue white. Some Warm White LEDs are a perfect match for incandescent, but many are too yellow (eg. the cheap packs of 100 on ebay). I bought an LED warm white string of Christmas lights several years ago, and they are perfect, but I'm running out of them. I used them to replace blue-white LED headlights and backup lights in a Lionel ABA set of CCII PRR Sharknose Diesels.
eBay ordering is going to be trial and error. The best option is Microlumina. They cater to the model train market, so I would expect the color would be correct. They have different sizes and both floods and spots.
Evans Designs also probably has correct color LEDs but they don't sell bare bulbs. Theirs are wired with a current limiting resistor or diode or both, which you do not need in your application.
If you need flangeless, the flanges can easily be filed off.

I've purchased a number of lots on eBay, so I have a variety of color temperature versions. I can simply pick from the ones that look best in the application I'm using them for.
I think i am looking for a 5000 kelvin for headlight white..the one in my photo i believe are closer to 6k. My ps3 gp35's are perfect right out of the box from from mth.
Check here.
John, I don't see any flangless LED's on their site.
My goof. I put two ultra brights in a PS2 for headlights that worked well. 3mm ww. Also a 5mm ultra ww in a steamer. That one lights up the wall. Number board and markers would be better flangeless.
I use both types, but since he specifically specified flangeless I figured that's what he wanted.
Looking at these https://www.adafruit.com/product/778 @ 5k kelvin but i would have to remove the flange to fit into the mth rubber holder.
I used to file the flange off, but since I started using the flangeless ones, it's much easier, highly recommended.
