We bought the original PE set back in 2004. After more than a fair amount of use and extra cars added, the engine finally crapped out. At that time I learned Lionel had a smaller Series 1 motor in the original set. I was fortunate to pick up another engine and tender with the larger Series 2 motor and LC from GRJ, still enjoying it to this day. I was wondering how many different variations Lionel has made to date. Traditional size not scale.

As Christmas draws closer the summer toys are tucked away and the attention turns to Lionel. Hence the question!

Jeff, I assume when you say traditional size you mean the semi scale 027 or O gauge version that comes in the Polar Express set? To the best of my knowledge there were the two early versions, the model with the small motor, and then a newer version with the larger can motor like you have now. Norm shows another version with the whistle steam that I was not aware of! I have the LionChief Plus 2.0 version from the 2019 Lionel catalog that replaced my 2008 Polar Express Berkshire model that came with the set.

There are a couple of other sets now with different versions of the Berkshire that have the LionChief Remote included, like the 10th anniversary set. There's also a couple of the newer sets with Bluetooth, like the 15th anniversary and Hobo sets.

Here's a video I did of my LionChief Plus 2.0 Polar Express Berkshire, PN 1932090, Christmas 2021. This version is sold separately and not in a set. It does cost more than any of the current Polar Express sets!

WesternPacific2217, Interested version of the Bell Car,  is that something you put together ?

Doug

Doug, the Candy Cane car is a operating Lionel side dump car I bought a long time ago, it’s all original including the candy canes. The bell is from the Polar Express set and I used a rubber band to attach it to the car. Nothing fancy, but it looks pretty cool.
